‘Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz?’ Eight years of planning and development went into the W124 and when it was finally launched in 1984 it immediately cemented Mercedes as the most aspirational brand on the planet.

In addition to the ‘hewn-from-granite’ build quality, it bristled with passive and active safety features including ABS brakes, multi-link rear suspension, crumple zones and an ingenious single windscreen wiper that dramatically increased the swept area. A huge success the world over, the W124 still has a devoted fan club today, most sought-after of all being the cavernous TD Estate which can cover starship mileages with ease.

Supplied new by Mertux Mercedes of Derby in January 1992, this 300TD Estate has clocked up 241,000 miles in the hands of five owners and comes with an impeccable service history comprising 42 stamps in the two service books, the last at 240,762 miles in May 2015. That gives an average service interval of just 5,750 miles.

Finished in Smoke Silver metallic with a charcoal cloth interior, it is packed full of options including: burr walnut wood trim; outside temperature indicator; wooden storage box between front seats; side repeater indicators; electric steel sunroof; folding front armrest; electric windows front and rear; heat insulating glass; headlamp wash/wipe; roof rack; cargo anchorage points; folding load compartment bench seat with two seatbelts.

The last MOT expired in May 2017 with no advisories recorded and the car has been unused and in storage since. Starting promptly and running well as we moved it around for these photos, this classic intercontinental cargo carrier comes with all its original handbooks and doubtless has years of useful life ahead of it.
