Supplied new to its original lady owner, Miss Florence of Ross on Wye in March 1961, this Audax-bodied Rootes Group Series III Minx 1500 has remained in Herefordshire its entire life.

Miss Florence kept her Minx until it was purchased by a Mr Underhill, also of Ross on Wye in August 1997, a staggering 36 year ownership during which time, by all accounts, she used the car only for a weekly shop; hence the mileage is just 32,615 some 60 years later. The second owner kept the car until 2004 when our vendor, also from just outside Ross on Wye stumbled across it. Being a stickler for originality and a quirky motor, he snapped it up and popped it into storage in his barn where it has remained, seeing very little use.

As a result, this three-owner car is likely to be among the most original and low mileage Minx’s in existence, the car showing no sign of any restoration or paint correction as far as we could see. It still looks lovely, simply looking inside is like taking a step back in time. The period service stickers inside the driver’s door nod to another era, the seats, especially the rears look to have rarely, if ever been sat in and the paint and brightwork has retained that original hue and sparkle with remarkably few age-related marks.

XVJ 622’s history file contains an old log book stamped 1976, a current V5C, old style V5, an original sales brochure (no doubt used to sway the hand to Miss Florence’s cheque book at the time of sale) and handbooks all in astounding, unmolested condition - including the original unspoilt lubrication charts and a series of MOTs dating back to 1975 when it had covered just 26,731 miles. The last formal MOT was in 2004 by which time it had still only covered 32,577 miles. Lovely...
