Pretty as a picture with its Tartan red paintwork, round arches and Rostyle steel wheels, this 1974 MG Midget has a lot going for it.

Not only is it the prettiest of the Midget models, this one has a Heritage shell too and benefits from considerable restorative work that includes a rebuilt engine and overhauled gearbox and back axle. The vendor tells us that the brake, shocks, and steering have all been replaced and there is an uprated anti-roll bar fitted. It also had a new hood fitted two years ago. The car comes with a comprehensive history file which includes its MOT history.

The recorded mileage is 66,906 miles which may or may not be correct, but when the recent work is taken into consideration is of even less concern. The vendor tells us that the car is “a pleasure to drive” and has recently enjoyed motoring to Scotland and Derbyshire from his home in Wrexham in this little red rocket.

The MkIII Midget is one of the nicest small sportscars to drive and its 65bhp, well-matched gear ratios and light weight give it a lively performance. The wind-up windows and easy-up hood give it a little of the sophistication the earlier cars are lacking. This one is in tip-top condition and with summer not far away this has to be an appealing car for anyone wanting a practical classic that is attractive, fun, and easy to live with.
