The post-War Standard 14 was in production for just four years – 1945-48 – during which time only 22,000 cars or so were produced. Based on the pre-War model, the car was handsome, upright and powered by a four-cylinder side-valve engine and four-speed gearbox which was also used in the Jaguar MkIV.

This 1946 Standard Flying 14 was first registered in June 1946 and spent its early years in Kent. Nothing is known of the intervening years until the current owner acquired it in 2014. His original plan had been to rejuvenate it and give it a bit of oomph – hence the more modern Triumph engine currently installed – but one thing led to another and that plan to complete the project went awry.

The original 1,776cc engine and gearbox are still with the car but, like the car itself, will need some work.

This is certainly a worthwhile project, but it is decidedly a project. The car comes with a modern V5C and a valid registration number – FBY 908. It also comes with a considerable number of spiders installed: arachnophobes should approach the car accordingly!
