This Sunbeam Talbot 90 MkIIa DHC is definitely in need of restoration and, in fact, the vendor started work on it some years ago, but with the end still not in sight and a house move imminent, he has decided to put it up for sale.

The good news is that the car comes with another one, which, although more of a concept than a car, could provide some useful spares.

The more complete of the two was first registered in May 1953 when it was recorded as a standard specification DHC in Alpine Mist. The second car, a 1955 Sunbeam Supreme, was Dawn Mist and Severn Blue but has gradually become Moss Green and Ferrous Oxide Brown.

The ’53 car appears to have had three previous owners and was on the road as recently as 1988 according to one of the two MOTs on file. Our vendor bought both cars in 1991, when one of them was still a runner and it has an old style logbook, with its number still current on the DVLA database.

There is little known history for either car, but factory records exist for both and show that BFP 909’s first owner was JMG Instruments Ltd, although probably not the famous ukulele manufacturer of the same name (thank you, Google).

As well as the second car, BFP 909 comes with a fine collection of Sunbeam catalogues and manuals, which should assist the new owner in the restoration.

This is a brave project but not beyond the scope of the experienced home restorer. The restoration will certainly be rewarding, as the Sunbeam Talbot 90 is a handsome car, satisfying to drive and one that has risen in value in recent years and, especially in drophead form, continues to do so.
