One of several MGBs in today’s sale, this lovely red Roadster has had just three owners since 1990, the current keeper acquiring it via a Bonhams auction in 2010 at which point it was described as being in “first class condition” following an extensive restoration in 1995.

This still holds true today, especially as the car has only covered 400 fine weather miles in the last nine years and now rides on a new set of sparkling chrome wire wheels rather than the Rostyles it had when it last changed hands in 2010. It has also been fully serviced and fitted with two new batteries during the current ownership.

A large file of invoices document not only the earlier restoration but also regular upkeep and many new parts since, including a new steering rack, new brake discs and a new hood in 2000. Other documents suggest that it has been fitted with a Kent fast road cam and uprated springs and shock absorbers although it is not quite clear if these were done during the restoration or some years afterwards. Whatever the case, the car drove extremely well on test and certainly felt unusually eager and responsive.

With gleaming red paintwork, leather seats, overdrive gearbox and Sony CD player, the car also looks great underneath and comes with an original owner’s handbook. A lovely example all round, we are confident that the lucky new owner will enjoy it hugely over the coming summer months.
