The W170-platform SLK230 Kompressor was introduced in 1997 to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3. Setting it apart was the ingenious folding electric hardtop, the balletic operation of which never ceases to delight onlookers.

It wasn’t just about posing either – under the bonnet lurked a seriously pokey 2.3-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine that produced a meaty 193bhp. Allied to a five-speed automatic transmission, it endowed the car with a 0-60 time of just 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.

This SLK230 was first registered in January 1997 and has been in the current ownership since 2013. It has covered just over 77,000 miles with a fair amount of history including seven stamps in the duplicate service book up to 36,128 miles in March 2006 and five old MOTs back to 2014, all with no advisories. The current MOT runs to 25th June 2019 with just one advisory for a damaged windscreen.

On offer here from a deceased estate at no reserve, it comes with its original bookpack and started instantly and ran nicely as we moved it around for these photos.
