Husband and wife had great times in the car, using it on the occasional rally and as an everyday vehicle until children arrived and more mundane transported was required.
The car was repainted in 1973, the work being done by respected coachbuilders Pile & Co, of Dartford who discovered that it had once been silver. Their paint is still on the car today.
The car was little used during the ’70 and ‘80s and then, in 1993 the vendor’s husband died prematurely and the MG spent the following years in storage. In 2002 the car was handed to Tay Restorations in Taunton, Somerset with the instruction to put it back in proper working order. The work was not a restoration but a returning to health and there is a detailed invoice in the history file showing the work carried out.
OYP 52 has spent many years in storage since but it has always been cared for and is in eminently useable condition today. The recorded mileage of 45,967 miles is of course genuine and the condition of the car and the way it drives back this up.
It is extremely unusual to find such a low mileage, two-owner TD and this one has an appealing air of authenticity and one which the new owner will, no doubt, greatly appreciate.
