The long-running MG Midget started life in 1961 as an updated version of the Donald Healey-inspired Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite.

Growing more comfortable and civilised as the years passed, the final 1974 version ended up with the 1,491cc engine from the Triumph Spitfire, wind up windows, external door handles, servo brakes and of course the rubber bumpers that so characterised these last of the line Midgets.

Midget by name but far from Midget by nature, it was a nimble performer, eventually disappearing from MG’s line-up in 1980 by which time 266,000 had been delivered, 20% of these in final 1500 form.

As the original Passport to Service book shows, this MG Midget 1500 was bought new by Mrs LM Flannery of Marlow in October 1978 and was originally registered as PUD 700T, a number which it kept until December 2009 when it became FNB 154T. The service book has seven stamps up to 36,000 miles in 1983 while 29 old MOTs warrant the 66,600 miles currently displayed today.

A good file of invoices show regular upkeep over the years including new rear springs and shocks in 2004 and a new hood in 2005. It also has a six-year Endrust anti-corrosion treatment guarantee which sadly expired in 1984 but has no doubt played a role in keeping the car very solid to this day!

On offer here from a deceased estate and lying unused in storage since the last MOT expired in May 2016 with no advisories recorded, it will doubtless benefit from some precautionary recommissioning before hitting the roads once more.
