Taking the classic Lotus Elan as their benchmark, a crack team of Mazda engineers set out to create the world’s finest two-seater sportscar under the rigorous design credo ‘jinba ittai’ – ‘horse and rider at one’. And boy did they succeed, the MX-5 going on to become the best-selling convertible in the history of motoring.
This particular MX-5 dates from the last year of MkI production and is a limited edition Monza version with British Racing Green paintwork, removable black hard top, 1.6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission. It has covered 94,675 miles with six stamps in the book plus evidence of one further service, the last service being carried out at 92,731 miles in June 2016.
In storage from 2007 – 2010, it has also been in storage for the last two years, the last MOT having expired in June 2018 with just one minor advisory, ‘n/s/f brake pads wearing thin’ which have since been renewed along with both front brake discs (invoice on file). New spark plugs and HT leads have also recently been fitted as has a sports steering wheel although the original wheel is included.
Starting promptly and running well as we moved it around for these photos, it comes with all its original handbooks in the original Mazda wallet and has been in the current ownership since 2014.
