Loud, fast and punchy, the six-cylinder TRs are arguably the most exciting Triumphs ever made and by the time production ended in 1976, the TR6 had become the best-selling Triumph in history with more than 94,000 sold, over 90% of them to the American market.

The early CP-prefix cars developed a quoted 150bhp but this was soon reduced on the CR-prefix cars to meet stringent US emissions requirements. This CR model has the later 125bhp engine but don’t let that put you off – the 150bhp claimed by Triumph was an SAE measurement (without ancillaries) whereas the 125bhp was DIN (as installed with ancillaries) so the actual difference is less than 25bhp and on the road you would be hard pressed to tell one from another, especially as the CR models is widely rated to be less ‘cammy’ with smoother power delivery and more pleasant to drive in town traffic.

This UK market overdrive-equipped TR6 was first registered in December 1974 and comes with an extensive history file to warrant the 59,900 miles indicated. This includes the original Passport to Service book with 11 stamps up to 27,225 miles plus 27 old MOTs back to 1974 and many invoices to show more recent maintenance. Fitted with a new clutch kit at 50,700 miles, it also benefits from a spin-on oil filter conversion and a new set of expensive Vredestein tyres.

The vendor has owned the car for three years and has had it maintained by local classic car specialist Nick Sawyer who has worked his way through the car to ensure that it goes as well as it looks. And boy does it look good with excellent panel gaps, gleaming Mimosa Yellow paintwork, impressive engine bay and a commendably clean and solid chassis. Address a few minor paint issues on the inner edges of the wheel arches and the bottom of the rear valance and you would have a real show-stopper.

Supplied with all its original handbooks and an original TR6 sales brochure plus much technical literature about the model, it also has an excellent hood, hood cover and tonneau. Beautifully presented, well documented and very low mileage, this TR6 is exactly how we like them and only needs a new owner to enjoy it over the coming season. With top examples now selling for over £30k, it looks mighty tempting at the modest guide price suggested.
