First registered in January 1957, 373 KMU is a genuine Morris Minor convertible (it’s there in the chassis number), not a conversion. 373 KMU is, also, a sweetie: you don’t need the chassis number to tell you that.

Originally fitted with a 948cc engine, but uprated with a 1,098cc A-series in 1974, this Minor has also been fitted with an alternator, flashing indicators, inertia-reel seatbelts, a brake servo and front disc brakes: practical modifications for a practical classic.

The early history of the Minor is not known in detail but the vendor has owned it since 2005 and has obviously cared for it. In 2009 it went to Hereford classic car specialist Malcom Williams for a thorough rejuvenation which is detailed in the invoices on file, but include bodywork repairs, door seals, new headlights and waxoiling – ten years down the line and the car still looks sweet.

Previous owners also cared for the car and there is a sheaf of invoices from the Morris Minor Parts Centre in London showing regular attention, from a replacement clutch to new seat webbing. Other maintenance records run back to the mid-1980s and also indicate that the car had other caring owners.

The hood is a recent addition and is in nice, taught condition and helped by the fact that the vendor has always kept the car garaged. The current recorded mileage is 14,882 and it would be nice to believe that this was correct but all indications are that this is the second time around, although the overall condition of the car belies that fact.

373 KMU is everything a proper Morris Minor should be and it is a convertible into the bargain. Throw in the sensible upgrades and you must wonder why the owner is selling. The answer is simple: it’s another Minor – a Traveller.
