MG’s best-looking post-war model, the MGA evolved from Syd Enever’s streamlined 1952 Le Mans car and possessed a beautifully sleek body that made Jaguar’s XK120 Roadster look lardy by comparison.

In production from 1955 to 1962, the MGA was no fireball, producing a modest 72bhp from its 1,498cc engine, but its top speed of 98mph was quick enough and it was blessed with a notably stiff body-on-frame design with direct rack-and-pinion steering which endowed it with great agility. By the time it was replaced by the rather softer MGB, some 101,000 had been sold, the vast majority to the booming American market where it gained a reputation as something of a giant-slayer on the race track.

As the Heritage Certificate confirms, DSK 903 was made in RHD for the export market in July 1958 and spent its first three decades in sunny South Africa, finally returning to these shores in 1990 where it has had three owners since, the current vendor acquiring it in 2004.

A retired engineer, the vendor has lavished much time and money on the car including having the gearbox rebuilt with new synchros and layshaft bearings. A stainless steel fuel tank and exhaust have also been fitted along with an alternator conversion, electronic ignition, telescopic shock absorbers, wire wheels and bodywork repairs as required. Recently fitted with a new set of tyres and a new battery, it comes with side-screens, hood and tonneau cover, all in serviceable condition. A handbook is also present.

Said to drive well with excellent oil pressure and temperature, it has recently completed an MGA Club tour round North Wales and Anglesey, performing faultlessly throughout. Supplied with an MOT until June 2020, this ‘matching numbers’ MGA is being offered here at a very modest guide price and is ready for a new owner to enjoy right away.
