Purchased by our enthusiast collector in 2015, this March 1986 Austin Mini Mayfair came to him with the original 998cc motor.
Finding this a little ‘dull’, he took this out and popped in a fruitier, purportedly rebuilt 1,275cc Metro engine and gearbox, adding servo-assisted 4-pot brakes to help slow it down along with a bigger bore, twin exit exhaust. The car certainly sounds like it has more go!
The vendor informs us the printed circuit board on the odometer failed at 66,000 miles so this was changed, with the new clocks showing just 1,200 since this time. The engine change is not recorded on the V5 and we are informed the speedo reads about 12mph slower than the car is going (certainly worth knowing about!).
The car appears to have undergone a colour change from blue to green in 2003 according to our Experian check, but looks very much the part with its wider arches, wide deep-dish Minilite style wheels and front spot lights. The document file includes the V5C and a current MOT running until April 2020 showing just two minor advisories for slight play in a ball joint and a brake pipe covered in grease.
The vendor informs us this little Mayfair goes ‘much better than the standard car!’ – it certainly looks like a lot of fun.
