First supplied new in March 1998, this early 3.4 water-cooled flat-six 996 series Carrera 2 has Porsche’s excellent five speed automatic/Tiptronic gearbox and is finished in the limited edition and unusual shade of Jade with matching Nephrite green interior with green carpets.

The car’s current lady owner bought the car after falling in love with the colour and fitted the wider lightweight alloy wheels complimenting the overall stance and appearance. The rest of the spec includes touch screen in-car entertainment, sunroof, half electric hardback sports seats, Sports tails to the exhaust and digital climate control with AC.

The history file includes the V5C, owners manuals and service booklet showing 13 service stamps plus a further six for brake fluid changes, three stamps for long life bodywork guarantee and one for airbags. There are a host of old MOT certificates and invoices backing up its modest 91,000 miles.

Recent works of note include a £1,523 spend at local Porsche specialist Gerry Doverman in March of this year for a failed TDC sensor and exhaust repair. There are also bills for a replacement rear engine crank seal which required the engine and gearbox removal in August 2008 plus other regular routine services. In addition, it also had replacement AC condensers and driers in 2015 and replacement drive shafts and ABS sensor in 2017.

A tidy example with a good service history in a rare colour scheme – 996’s are good news of late following the price hikes of the air-cooled cars. These earlier 3.4’s also seem not to suffer the IMS bearing failures of the later 3.6 versions as they featured a stronger bearing– worth considering when looking for one of these under-valued 911s.
