One of the best-loved Morris Minor variants, the Traveller estate was introduced in 1953 and remained in production right up to 1971 although it is still such a common sight on British B roads that you might almost think it was still being made.
Great fun to drive and a doddle to maintain, it has a generous load area thanks to the foldable rear seats which swallows anything from hay bales and bicycles to children and wet dogs. In 1962 the old 948cc engine was dropped in favour of a larger 1,098cc unit that produced a heady 48bhp and could propel the car to a top speed of 77mph – eventually.
This lovely 1969 Traveller has been owned for the past five years by a devoted enthusiast who has used it almost daily but derives as much pleasure from tinkering with it as he does from driving it. The list of improvements carried out during his ownership is endless so we can only touch on them here, but they are all designed to make the car as reliable and fun to drive as possible.
The list includes: Pertronix electronic ignition; upgraded duplex timing chain; alternator conversion; poly bushed front suspension; additional temperature and oil pressure gauges; heated front windscreen; powder coated wheels; all new brakes; new steel front wings; new window seals; new seat covers; new boot lining; stainless steel exhaust and sill covers; extra sound deadening; new head lights, indicators and reversing light; Dinitrol cavity injection; underside cleaned, Hammerited and undersealed; waxoiled every year; serviced every 3,000 miles; brake fluid and gearbox oil renewed every two years – you get the picture!
Supplied with a huge history file and a detailed log of usage and maintenance, this is a peach of a car that any Moggie enthusiast would feel privileged to own. Bid vigorously now and it could be you who drives it home!
