Supplied new in August 1998, this early 996 series 911 Cabriolet features the water-cooled 3.4-litre flat-six motor kicking out some 296bhp, driven in this instance through the rear wheels as a Carrera 2 model.

Finished in silver with black leather interior, Turbo alloy wheels and expensive optional factory fit removable hard-top, the car presents well. Ordered as many were with Porsche’s 5-speed automatic/Tiptronic transmission with steering wheel controls, the car heralded a new future for Porsche with the adoption of water-cooling for their rear-engined 911s after a lifetime of air-cooled motors. The spec of this fine example features electric folding mohair roof, electric seats, Bluetooth parrot, useful wind deflector and 6 CD changer

The car’s history file includes its V5C, service book showing eight service stamps to back up its modest 101,000 miles. After purchase in July 2018 our vendors had the car serviced and found the gearbox was a little noisy, so this was changed for a replacement unit along with a major service and repair of the A/C, central locking and little niggly bits such as wipers, puddle lights et al at a cost of some £4,500. The car has since been enjoyed, the hardtop not having been used during that time.

It is pictured on a private registration which will be retained prior to the sale and the car will likely return to its previous age-related plate of S907 KDY. Historic invoices show a spend totalling around £20,000 on the car over its life – quite the royal treatment by its doting owners.

The current MOT is valid until June 2020 with no advisories. There are a further ten plus old MOTs backing up its modest mileage. A good 996 cabriolet on a sunny day is a joy and should be something we can all aspire to. At the attractive guide price it certainly looks sorely tempting…
