It’s the Minilite-style wheels – you can’t miss ‘em. A touch incongruous, perhaps, but what a brilliant idea. They change the identity of the car in an instant. And the 3-5-litre V8 (with manual gearbox) provides the performance to back up the pose.

This 1974 Rover 3500S is standard in most other respects (and there is a set of standard wheels with the car, if you must) even down to the brown Draylon upholstery and brown vinyl roof although the body colour was changed in 1978 (white originally). And for those Carpenters fans amongst you, there is an 8-track stereo player in place.

The speedo indicates that the car has covered 81,370 miles in its 45 years but there is no documentary evidence to support this. The car is remarkably sound and is very clean under the bonnet, so this figure could be correct. DVLA data shows that the car has only covered 203 miles in the last 8 years. It had its last MOT in May 2019, had no advisory notifications and is now tax- and MOT-exempt.

Our man on the spot reports that the car started easily and ran well for the photo-shoot even though it has been in storage for the past year.

This is a lovable old bruiser of a car, still capable of providing enjoyable everyday motoring (although it does like a drink – don’t they all?), and would make an ideal long-distance rally car (which would also provide a good excuse to get rid of those brown nylon-covered front seats). It would also be an ideal tow-car for your classic racing motorcycle or motor car.

AMENDMENT; Bidders are advised that this car come with power steering - a very usful addition indeed...
