Every true petrolhead should own a Citroen DS at least once in their lifetime: bristling with innovations and with unique driving charactersitics, it was the most radical car the world had ever seen when it was launched in 1955 and still has the power to entrance today.

This February 1972 D Special has the desirable Pallas spec including black leather seats with headrests for the front occupants, improved sound deadening, headlights that swivel with the steering, additional driving lamps below the front bumper, aluminium trim on the door panels and sills plus additional external trim embellishments. It also has the 5-speed manual column-change gearbox to make the most of the performance.

Recently imported from the sunny South of France, it appears to be in sound condition throughout and comes with various invoices back to the 1980s to show upkeep in its homeland over the years. Starting promptly and running nicely as we moved it around for these pictures, we are told that it drives well with an MOT until May 2020 and recently completed a 100 mile journey with no problems whatsoever. The hydraulics also raise and lower the car correctly, as you can see in the photos on our website.

As with most French cars it has the odd battle scar here and there but that just adds to its Gallic charm and means you won’t be scared to let it take its chances in the Tesco carpark. Fitted with a battery cut-off switch and a tow bar, you will also spot that it has miniature bride and groom figurines behind the headlamp covers but what that is all about we have no idea! Being offered here at a very modest guide price and in an attractive colour scheme, it looks mighty tempting all round.
