Originally registered in Huntingdonshire on 1st August 1950, this 'lights-through-the-grille' 80” Series 1 Land Rover spent its first ten years in that county before going off-grid. Little is known of its later life until our vendor bought it in ‘nearly finished’ condition.
HEW 460 had received a body-off rebuild with the chassis and panelwork shot-blasted and painted. The engine, suspension, steering, etc were checked over and various parts replaced or upgraded where appropriate. There is no paperwork to detail the work carried out or the parts that were fitted but this Land Rover does look to have had a lot of time and money spent on it and potential buyers will be impressed by its current condition.
Our vendor has finished the car off to a high standard and it is an extremely neat and tidy example of an early Land Rover with a new Exmoor Trim canvas hood. The vendor has applied for a V5C for the car and this should be available in time for the auction. An old buff logbook is already present.
The car has not been restored to complete originality – and the guide price reflects that - but only the rivet-counters will find fault with it. It certainly is in lovely order and will give many years of enjoyment to its new owner.
