The Crossley brothers were skilled engineers and shrewd businessmen who were involved with the motor car industry in Great Britain from its early days. Crossley Motors produced high quality cars from 1904 to 1938, but their output was limited - 19,000 cars in total – and Crossley cars are a rare sight these days.

This 1926 Crossley 14hp Tourer is well-known within vintage car circles as its owner has used the car extensively over his 28 year ownership. The car comes with two exhaustive lists of journeys made and work carried out during that time. There is not enough space to list these details and any interested party is advised to contact us to look over the documents.

As well as regular routine servicing and replacement of minor components, the car has received more major work during the vendor’s ownership. These include: new hood and side-screens (1991), radiator rebuild (‘92), partial re-paint (2000), magneto rebuilt (’06), engine rebuilt by AC Royle (‘07/’08), and new CW&P (’08). The list runs to three and half A4 pages.

A similar list is on file of the journeys undertaken by the vendor who was not afraid to use the car on extensive tours around the country. This list runs to 10 pages and if it were set to music could be entitled “We’ve been everywhere, man.”

The Crossley was imported from Australia in 1990 and our vendor bought it from Smallbones the following year. There are 18 old MOT certificates with the car, from 1991 to 2012. The mileage covered cannot be accurately ascertained from these records as the odometer only runs to four figures! However, mileage should not be an issue with this car considering the careful attention it has always received.

This Crossley is an impressive vintage Tourer and has many miles left in it. It is in commendable condition but has not been used much in the past six years due to the continuing ill-health of the vendor. Brightwells just hope the new owner can to enjoy the car as much as its recent long-term owner has.
