Introduced in 1965, the Pininfarina-styled MGB GT 2+2 was based on the convertible, but used a taller windscreen and new roof line. The MGB range was an enormous success and its popularity as an affordable fun car has not diminished. Furthermore its 95bhp B-Series engine with twin 1 ½ “ SUs makes for a 105mph top speed with plenty of gutsy torque.

By 1974 the company had reacted to the new US crash safety regulations by introducing rubber bumpers front and rear, raising the car in the process to meet the lighting regulations. This US spec became standard across all markets, continuing on to the final production run in 1980. Their reliability, performance and excellent handling mean that there is no reason why MGBs cannot be used every day.

This rubber-bumper MGB comes from the very end of the car’s production run and was first registered in September 1981. The car comes fitted with front and rear seatbelts making it an appealing choice for the classic car enthusiasts with small children (or those whose older children who are contortionists).

The car is mostly standard but the eagle-eyed will have spotted those modern-style alloy wheels, which, surprisingly, do not look too out of place on the car and are further enhanced by a matching set of Yokohama tyres. The car also has a rather nice Motolita steering wheel and wears its smart and original deck-chair upholstery.

The car is ready for use, offered with a very reasonable reserve price and, we are told, will have a new MOT in time for the auction.
