The 3 litre Alvis TA21 in drophead form was undeniably the most elegant of the Alvis early post-War cars. It wasn’t just good-looking though, the twin-carb 93bhp six-cylinder engine could propel the car to over 90 mph with handling to match.

This TA21 three-position drop-head (body by Tickford) is especially elegant with blue over silver paintwork, dark blue mohair hood and maroon Connolly leather upholstery. Although little is known of its early years, the car does have a comprehensive history file dating back to 2002 detailing the extensive work carried out by the two owners in that time.

The car was fitted with new rear springs, wire wheels, front discs and calipers in 2005/2006, with new rear splined hubs in 2010. It received an engine rebuild at 73,891 miles in 2009/10, with new pistons, crankshaft re-grind, new bearings, new valves, springs etc.

Our vendor bought CKS 256 in 2003 and undertook a long-term course of improvement with the car. It received a new mohair hood in 2014 with professional repairs to the leather seats (the carpets had been replaced in 2003). A collection of invoices from Fisher Restoration and Red Triangle in 2014/15 show that the car received new sills, new A- and B-post sections, repairs to the wooden framework and wings and repair work to the brakes at a cost close to £11,000. Fisher restoration also carried out work to the front and rear suspension in 2015 at a cost of over £2,300.

Work carried out in 2018 included fitting new valves and guides to the cylinder head, professional repairs to the nearside front wing and fitting one new wire wheel. More recently the car has had the distributor rebuilt, the steering idler box renovated, the anti-roll bar bushes replaced, new track rod ends and the tracking set.

The recorded mileage is shown as 84,830 miles which is believed to be correct but cannot be verified. The car has an MOT to June 2020 with no advisories.

This is a fabulous old Alvis which is not concours, but is in beautifully mellow condition, has great presence and no problems keeping up with modern traffic.

AMENDMENT; Please note that it has been in the current ownership since 2013 not 2003
