There is something essentially right about a Morris Minor. Everybody loves them and their popularity endures, thanks to the abundance of cheap, quality spare parts and the fact that they are surprisingly good to drive.

Their clever torsion-bar front suspension and rack and pinion steering were the principal reasons, and when this lovely two-door Trafalgar blue Minor was delivered to its first lady owner in North Wales on the first day of November 1966, she must have been very pleased with the purchase. She paid £590 for the car, which she was to keep for the next 25 years, retaining an impressive file of bills and records along the way.

These include its first MOT (along with plenty more), all of which help to substantiate the mileage of just over 59,000 as correct. There is even the original BMC ‘Passport to Service’ book.

‘Maurice’, as the car has always been known, moved to Somerset in 1991 where the second owner of 12 years continued to file the Mot certificates, tax disks and invoices. Its third and current owner, also from Somerset, acquired Maurice in 2003, principally to add to his small classic car collection, since when it has spent most of its time on SORN.

It was resprayed about 18 years ago but the car does have a few blemishes here and there, although is very presentable for a near 53 year old.

Maurice benefits from a few little upgrades here and there such as, a laminated windscreen, heated rear screen, four-way flashers and rear seat belts, as well as a concealed battery cut off switch under the dashboard!

The vendor describes the driving experience as “delightful”. It comes with its original matching engine and that elusive low-mileage feel.
