Named after the 17th century French explorer Antoine de Cadillac, founder of Detroit, Michigan, in 1701, the Cadillac has always been America's premier automotive brand, enjoying the same reputation for engineering excellence that we once reserved for Rolls-Royce.

From 1949 Cadillac introduced a prestige trim level they called DeVille and from 1959 the DeVille became a model range in its own right, slotting in just below the top rank Eldorado. The third generation of De Ville models ran from 1965 to 1970 and comprised a range of two- and four-door sedans and a two-door convertible, with a choice of 429Ci (7-litre) and 472Ci (7.7-litre) V8 engines offering 340bhp and 375bhp respectively.
A hugely popular range, some 181,719 DeVilles were sold in the five years between 1965 and 1970, accounting for 76% of all Cadillac sales and making it the single most successful model in the history of the firm. With sharp-suited Sixties lines and relatively sober brightwork adornments, the third generation DeVille still has a mighty street presence today and survivors are increasingly sought after.

This 7-litre two-door pillarless sedan dates from 1966 and benefits from all the improvements that were made to the third-generation models during its production life. We are advised that this stunner has led an easy life, having been well maintained throughout its life both here and in the States. The underside is very solid and all factory original.

The odometer shows just 64,000 miles which the vendor believes correct, although we don’t have the paperwork to support that, and runs very sweetly and changes nicely on a freshly overhauled gearbox and torque converter.

The shut lines are excellent and the amazing Candy Cherry red paintwork really zings in the sunshine, complemented by the white leather upholstery (piped and stitched in red) and full power seats.

Residing in the UK since 1988, it has a current V5C, manual and a bundle of receipts and is MOTd until September with no advisories.

AMENDMENT: Bidders please note new estimate
