Launched in 1996 and staying in production until 2002, the Z3 was BMW’s first modern mass-market roadster and was designed very much with the American market in mind.

Beautifully styled by Joji Nagashima in BMW’s Californian design studio, it had an aggressively flared bonnet sporting side vents that wouldn’t have looked out of place on WW2 fighter plane. Initially powered by a 138bhp 1.9-litre 4-cylinder engine, it was soon clear that the chassis could handle a lot more poke and from 1997, BMW’s 193bhp all-alloy 24-valve 2.8-litre straight-six was dropped in, to the delight of the sporting driver.

This gave the car sparkling performance, launching it to 60mph in just 6.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 140mph. To help manage all this power, automatic traction and stability control came as standard, together with air bags and all the luxuries you would expect in a BMW (air con, power operated soft top, leather etc).

First registered in January 1999, this Z3 2.8 5-speed manual looks great in Montreal Blue metallic with a factory hard top in silver for snug year-round driving. It has covered only 48,200 miles from new with a good service history comprising seven stamps in the book with many invoices and old MOTs to warrant the mileage.

Riding on 17” 5-spoke alloys, it has the Chrome Line interior finish with heated electric seats in beige leather, M-Sport gear knob and steering wheel and ice cold air con. We are told that the car is in very good order throughout with the electric soft top operating as it should. Supplied with the original BMW tool kit, first aid kit, brochure, handbooks, service book, tax discs etc, it has an MOT to August 2020 and is ready to drive away today.
