It’s 1986: Top Gun is showing at the cinema, the Bangles are walking like an Egyptian, Freddy Starr may or may not be eating a Hamster and Porsche dealers are selling Guards Red 911s as fast as the factory can make them. This is one of those.
It is, in fact, a wide-bodied 3.2 litre M491 Targa Super Sport complete with whale-tail, turbo-type wheel arches and – on a good day - 234bhp.
This 911, however, is not at its best, as some of you may have noticed. It had its last MOT (no advisories) in 2009, at 122,000 miles and has been off the road for the last nine years. The file of receipts for work and parts that accompanies the car shows expenditure of around £5,000 on the engine (2006) and a Hayward & Scott stainless steel exhaust fitted in 2000.
Other receipts show a host of minor parts fitted in the early ‘noughties but there is no recent history and the car is a little the worse for wear and will need plenty of attention from the MIG welder.
On the plus side though, 911 Super Sports are much sought after these days and really good ones are changing hands for around £60,000 – opportunity knocks?
