Registered on the last day of the year that the Dolomite was introduced, this 1972 example was specified with an automatic gearbox and painted Sienna brown.

It was delivered in High Line (HL) spec, which meant it came with a rev counter, volt meter, separate fuel and temperature gauges, analogue clock, adjustable steering column, height adjustable driver's-seat head restraints, seat pockets, rear arm rest and walnut door cappings. It must have been about the most expensive Dolomite on the pricelist.

The accompanying Heritage Certificate shows that it was despatched to Henlys in London and issued with the registration number SLK 768L, which as you might have guessed, has been sold in the distant past to someone with a penchant for German ragtops.

Now registered PKE 514L, it shows five former keepers on the V5C and was purchased by the vendor in 2012 as a vehicle to help with the restoration of his Sprint.

It soon became apparent that the car was too good for that and he decided to renovate it instead. If originality is your thing, this is certainly the car for you, as although there are a few signs of rust here and there, it is basically extremely solid and sound and unmolested.

When he got it, it was not running well, but this was soon remedied with a full carburettor overhaul and a check of the brakes. The lights were upgraded with Halogen units and it has more recently been fitted with new tyres. It also comes with an extra spare wheel.

The vendor treated it to a full fluids oil change last year and has been using it for local shows and events and popping to the shops.

As roads get more and more congested, the idea of a classic with an automatic box becomes more attractive by the day. This unusual, original and sound Doly looks like an ideal solution to your classic motoring needs.
