One of three MGB Roadsters in today’s sale, this striking Blaze Orange examples dates from October 1978 but has been converted to chrome bumpers for that classic MG look.
Our vendor bought the car in November 2018 as a project to keep him busy in his retirement and has expended much money and effort to bring it up to the standard you see today, recruiting professional help where needed.
Stripped to a rolling shell, it was treated to a professional repaint in its original colour and fitted with new door locks, headlight surrounds, windscreen and side-window seals, chrome wing mirrors plus chrome fittings and fasteners for the soft-top. The engine was painted in MG maroon, the gearbox cleaned and checked. Minilite-style alloys were fitted along with a performance manifold and a conversion to Spax shock absorbers.
Other new parts include: alloy rocker cover and gasket; engine/gearbox mountings; radiator and hoses; thermostat and water pump gaskets; oil cooler and pipes; oil filter; Classic oil 20/50 and coolant; heater control valve; fuel filter; washer bag and jets; bonnet sound deadening.
On completion the car was taken to St Johns Garage in Worcester for a final check-over and has been used only very sparingly since. We are told that it drives well with good 60psi+ oil pressure both starting and running. And in case you were wondering, yes the missing bits of footwell carpet in the photos will be back in place prior to the auction.
Although it no longer needs one, it is due to have a new MOT in time for the sale and comes with a large history file extending back to the early ‘80s. It is only for sale because our vendor now finds himself suddenly un-retired with no time to enjoy his shiny new toy (management consultants are in hot demand these days) so bid vigorously now and his loss could be your gain.
