The Plus 4 Morgan was introduced as a higher performance version of the 4/4 and originally used the outstanding Standard Vanguard/TR2 engine giving the car the sort of performance that it had always craved

When engine supplies dried up, focus turned to making the Plus 8, a replacement Plus 4 having to wait until 1981 to make its reappearance by which time the brilliant twin-cam Fiat engine was the power unit of choice. Later models used an M16 2-litre 16-valve Rover engine which also suited the car very well, upgraded to the even better 136bhp T16 version when that became available as in this model here.

Often confused with the 4-seater, the Plus 4 was a model in its own right and was available as either a 2- or a 4-seater. Offering strong performance thanks to its light weight, it was decently quick and offers arguably the best long-distance touring performance of the range, combining plenty of go with a very pleasant balanced feel.

This very smart Plus 4 two-litre has had four previous owners, the current having owned it for the last 14 years. It was nicely specified when it was new, the standard black paintwork looking great against the red leather upholstery (with reclining seats), walnut dashboard and Motolita steering wheel. The hood is also in contrasting red vinyl.

The wire wheels are silver-painted and its original owner added a spare wheel cover, extra tread rubbers, a badge bar and a useful luggage carrier.

It has covered 37,980 miles, sufficient to keep the car lubricated and feeling nice to drive, yet modest enough to ensure there are plenty more left where that came from. We are told it will have a fresh MOT by the time of sale.

On offer for a mere fraction of the cost of a new one, and although there are plenty of differences between old and new, to most, the experience will be much the same and this one will be just as much fun to drive, offering its new owner all manner of driving opportunities.
