History

1963 JAGUAR 2.4 MK 2 The Mark 2 Jaguar was introduced in October 1959 and was a development of the Mark I, Jaguar?s first unitary construction chassis-less car. Major improvements included a greatly increased track giving vastly better stability and roll-resistance. Another considerable advance was the much enlarged windows, resulting in a greater visibility, and the slimmer roof pillars gave a smoother body line. Again the cars were built around the magnificent smooth and muscular twin-overhead camshaft engines which had powered Jaguars to success at Le Mans and elsewhere so many times in the 1950?s and 1960?s. As before the front suspension was independent with a live rear axle on leaf springs but now with servo-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels. The sumptuous interiors were by now to an established Jaguar pattern, with wide leather-clad seats and armrests. A veneered dashboard contained a large speedometer and rev-counter grouped on either side of the adjustable steering column, with a row of minor instruments and switches in central a console. These Jaguars were spectacularly fast for their day and with superbly finished polished alloy engines and leather interiors were always exceptional value for money. This 1962 model is fitted with the economical 2.4 litre six cylinder twin-cam engine and overdrive gearbox. The vendor has owned the car for some 15 years and the mileage of 70,000 is believed to be correct. A major rebuild was under taken by renowned Jaguar restorers Pheonix Restorations some years ago, including a very high quality repaint in old English white cellulose and very few miles have been covered since. This is a sound, reliable and economical car ready to be used every day, and it represents a great opportunity to own a Classic Jaguar at a fraction of the cost of its restoration. The car free to tax, and is offered with a fresh MOT.
