THIS CAR HAS NOW BEEN WITHDRAWN. APOLOGIES FOR ANY CONVENIENCE CAUSED
One of two XJC Coupes in our sale today, this 1977 example is the Jaguar version which is more or less identical to the Daimler in all respects other than the design of the radiator surround and the deletion of the chrome strip running up the centre of the bonnet. Both were powered by the same magnificent 4.2-litre XK engine with the twin SU carb set up which produced some 186bhp and gave the car a top speed of 127mph.
Recently repainted in its original Regency Red with a light tan leather interior, this particular car has been fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox (recently rebuilt) to make the most of the power of the engine. New shock absorbers have also been fitted and various suspension rubbers replaced. The car also benefits from a full-length Webasto sunroof – with all the windows down and the roof open on a summer’s day, it almost feels like you are in a convertible. Supplied with a fresh MOT, this is a most elegant and sporting machine that should have a considerable performance advantage over the more usual automatic models, allied to reasonable economy from the fifth gear which allows for relaxed motorway cruising.
