Launched in March 1972, the Ford Granada succeeded the Zephyr as Ford's executive car offering. It was restyled and upgraded in August 1977 as the Granada MkII with distinctive straight-edged styling and a wider choice of engines. It was further developed in 1982 with a mild facelift and improvements to the drivetrain to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. At first the cars were produced at Ford’s Dagenham plant, but from the 1980s onwards all were produced in Germany.

The top-of-the-range model was the 2.8-litre Ghia X, powered by a ‘Cologne’ V6 which developed 160bhp and had features such as air conditioning and a trip computer. The Mk II range sold well until it was replaced in 1986 by the much more rounded and less handsome Granada Mk III.

First registered in December 1984, this particular Ghia X Estate automatic had just one owner from 1992 until earlier this year. When acquired it had only 9,000 miles on the clock, a total which has now risen to only 102,000 miles. Clearly a much cherished car which has been garaged all its life, it comes with a comprehensive history file detailing every every item of mechanical work carried out from 1992 until the present day. Only being sold due to the death of the owner, it comes with the original owner’s handbook and is due to have a fresh MOT before the sale.
