The original Ford Escort was launched way back in 1968 and remained in production until 2002, going through six generations along the way. Over 4.1 million examples were sold in Britain making it the most popular car ever made for the domestic market.

The MkV cars were made from 1990 to 1992 and, as usual, quickly became the best selling models in the country despite a somewhat lukewarm reception from the motoring press. Engines ranged from a 59bhp 1.3-litre to the 224bhp 2-litre turbocharged unit found in the Cosworth with its signature whale-tail spoiler. In the middle of the range was the 1.6-litre EFi which produced some 104bhp.

This 1992 Ford Escort Cabriolet 1.6 EFi has been in the hands of one family from new and is showing a mere 15,100 miles on the clock which is believed genuine but there is insufficient documentary history to verify this. The outstanding condition of the car, both inside and out, would certainly tend to back up this mileage and there surely cannot be a cleaner example in the country. The electric soft top works exactly as it should and the car even comes with its original bill of sale. One to use and enjoy as it is, or put away in mothballs to preserve its remarkable condition.
