Last of the MG T-Series line and arguably the best, the TF was introduced in October 1953. Although mechanically very similar to its TD predecessor, the provision of a shorter radiator, revised wing line and faired-in headlamps lent it an altogether sportier air. Equipped with rack-and-pinion-steering, independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension and four-wheel drum brakes, the new model helped maintain the marque''s 'Safety Fast' reputation. Initially powered by a twin-carburettor fed 1,250cc XPAG four-cylinder engine, the TF could also be had in 1,466cc XPEG guise from November 1954 onwards.

First registered in July 1954, this particular TF 1250 looks particularly striking with its gleaming black coachwork and red leather interior. The car has been in the current private ownership for the last four years but for many years before that it was owned by renowned Spitfire and Hurricane restorer, Tony Ditheridge of Suffolk.

The TF was Mr Ditheridge’s own personal car and he fully restored it during his ownership – a slightly easier task than resurrecting a vintage fighter plane, one imagines! Used in dry weather only and always kept garaged, the car remains in lovely condition and is said to drive beautifully with a notably sweet and responsive engine. The speedo was reset to zero when the restoration was completed and is still only showing some 2,100 miles today.

It comes with various old MOTs back to 1988, a Heritage Certificate confirming its origins and original black/red colour scheme, and is currently taxed and MOTd until September 2011. The icing on the cake is a very distinctive PUP number plate.
