Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Saloon

Jaguar launched a mildly updated version of the wonderful XJ6 saloon in 1973, mainly to comply with more stringent US safety requirements which required that the front bumper be raised to 16” from the road. However, they also took the opportunity to revise the cabin architecture which now featured a more driver-friendly layout of the instruments and switchgear, plus a much-improved heating and ventilation system – one of the few areas of criticism of the Series One model.

It was still powered by the same magnificent 245bhp 4.2-litre XK engine which endowed the stately saloon with a top speed of 127mph and a 0-60 dash of just 8.8 seconds. The ride quality, handling and extreme silence of operation was just as remarkable as before.

Dating from 1974, this particular XJ6 has had just one Jaguar enthusiast owner for the last 21 years and has covered less than 95,600 miles from new. Presented in the attractive period colour scheme of Greensand with a dark brown leather interior, it is said to be in very good condition for its age and further benefits from a full-length Webasto sunroof.

The car comes with all its original handbooks and has clearly been well looked after but, at the time of cataloguing, the service history could not be found. Said to run and drive well, it has an MOT until October.
