If, like many, you can’t stretch to the current figures being asked for Lotus Sevens, the next best thing is to find yourself a decent replica.
Based on a pre-litigation Westfield 7 (the kit Westfield made prior to Caterham asking them to desist as it was too close to Caterham’s own offering), the last owner set about creating an ‘evocation’ of a Lotus Seven that looks, drives, sounds and smells almost like the real thing, but at a fraction of the price.

The vendor states that: “This Westfield is no trailer-queen; it looks, and has, been used properly in all weathers. The aluminium is nicely weathered and, just as many impecunious enthusiasts did in the 60s, the nose cone and wings have been brush painted. The red vinyl interior is a mix of Smiths, Jaeger, and other instrumentation, period toggle switches and non-adjustable bench seats. Lotus Seven S2 rear wings have been fitted, along with correct, period, lighting (sidelamps, tail lamps, number plate light, etc.).

“Mechanically, this car is running a 1600cc, 85bhp Escort Mexico engine (711M block) with a single, twin-choke, Weber carb, Cortina gearbox and
3.54 Escort rear axle. The chassis is in very good order, with adjustable Spax suspension all-round. The current owner has had the cylinder head converted to unleaded, at the same time fitting a new water pump. Wet-weather gear comes with the car, comprising boot and full-length tonneau covers (both piped white), side screens and hood. It is MOTd until April 2012 and the 22,000 on the clock is the distance covered since it was built.

“The current owner would dearly like to keep this car as it’s just so much fun to drive, however his wife pointed out that he already had too many classic cars so, not wishing to lose the wife, the car is reluctantly available.”
