The Willys CJ Jeep was launched immediately after the Second World War as a more luxurious civilian version of the famous wartime Jeep and the same basic vehicle stayed in production through seven variants and three corporate parents until 1986 when it was replaced by the Jeep Wrangler.

The CJ5 version, as here, came out in 1954 and remained in production for an extraordinary 29 years with very few changes apart from a lengthening of the wheelbase from 81” to 83.5” in 1972 in order to accommodate a larger 5-litre V8 engine.

First registered in September 1974, this rare right-hand drive CJ5 was treated to a total nut-and-bolt rebuild about five years ago. Bills for parts alone came to over £10,000 and included: all new body panels; rebuilt 5.9-litre V8 engine; rebuilt three-speed manual transmission; rebuilt axles; raised and uprated suspension; front disc brake conversion; side exit exhausts; Compomotive alloy wheels with BF Goodrich mud-terrain tyres; Corbeau rally seats and harnesses plus many other items too numerous to list in full.

Since the restoration was completed the vehicle has only covered around 1,000 miles and is said to perform superbly, being highly capable off road with a deeply impressive exhaust note! Currently taxed and with an MOT until August 2012, it is ready for immediate work or play.
