One of four Rolls-Royce 20/25 models in our sale today, this particular Park Ward-bodied saloon was first registered to Park Ward & Co Ltd in February 1935 and used by them as a demonstrator until sold to a Mrs Catherine Wood-Edwards of Anglesey in December 1935 – she being the youngest daughter of Henry Thomas Edwards, Dean of Bangor.
An old buff log book shows that ownership then transferred to John Wm Hughes of Anglesey in 1957, Hollands Garage of Macclesfield in 1959, Mr W Ellison of Langley in 1960, Gerald Braithwaite of Penrith in 1974 and Janis Brough of Penrith in 1975. The current vendor acquired it from The Real Car Company in April 2009 when it was black and yellow but has since treated it to a bare metal repaint in the current black and maroon. The bodywork was also tidied up at the same time and new timbers fabricated under the running boards.
The vendor states that the car drives beautifully with no squeaks, rattles or oil leaks and believes that the c.90,000 miles on the clock may well be genuine. The car certainly fired up readily on the occasion of our visit to take these photographs and was so quiet on tick-over that it was hard to tell if it was actually running or not. The brown leather interior has a lovely patina that only comes from decades of careful use and features walnut picnic tables and foldaway footrests behind the front seats, with twin vanity units above the rear seats.
In good condition all round, the car comes with a copy of an original owner’s handbook, the original wheel changing kit, a luggage trunk and is MOTd until October 2012.
