MGA 1500 Coupe

It’s not very often that a closed coupe version of a sportscar actually looks as pleasing as its more glamorous open counterpart, however with the MGA Coupe this was definitely the case. The MGA was blessed with good looks and a well proportioned body from day one, the fixed head Coupe continuing this theme with a roof design that mimicked the Roadster's raised soft-top profile.

The MGA Coupe became a standard model in the range from 1956 and was available throughout the model's lifetime, in 1500, 1600, Mk II and Twin-Cam forms. Standard features included wind-up door windows, external door handles, locks and extra brightwork. Mechanically the closed cars were identical to their open sister MGA models and had genuine 100mph performance.

This particular 1500 Coupe was first registered in January 1956 but unfortunately very little is known of its subsequent history. Between 2005 and 2008 the car was treated to a total nut-and-bolt rebuild which results in the magnificent example you see today. Virtually every single part of the car has been restored or renewed as necessary and the vendor believes that you would be hard pressed to find a better example. Although some of the bills for all this work have been mislaid, many remain and the results speak for themselves – the car is as good underneath as it is up top.

Looking most striking in bright blue with a black leather interior, the car is said to drive superbly – so well, in fact, that the vendor believes it may have an uprated engine. Oil pressure and temperature remain good at all times, there are no clonks or rattles and the drum brakes pull the whole thing up firmly and squarely. A set of five sparkling chrome wire wheels with good tyres, a sports steering wheel and racing harnesses add icing to the cake. MOTd and taxed until May 2012, it is ready for a proud new owner to drive away today.
