Mercedes launched its W123 range to huge acclaim in 1976. Fabulously well built and with gracefully understated styling, the car was such an instant success that a booming black market sprang up to serve those who wanted to leap-frog the 12-month waiting list. Most handsome of all were the 230CE and 280CE coupes, based on a shortened W123 saloon platform and with elegant pillarless side windows.

The 230CE model was fitted with the fuel-injected 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine which produced around 134bhp and 148lb/ft of torque, sufficient to propel the car to a top speed of 118mph. It sold steadily until it was finally replaced by the W124 range in 1985.

Supplied new by Howells of Worcester in June 1983 and still with its original delivery check sheet, this particular Coupe has been in the current ownership since 1991. The car has covered around 92,000 miles from new but the speedo was replaced at 63,000 miles so the current reading is only 29,000 miles. Always well cared for, it comes with a good service history and was last serviced about 7,000 miles ago. Said to be in good condition all round with a particularly clean interior, it is also fitted with a Sony CD player and has a current MOT.

Please note that the personalised number shown will be replaced with an age-related plate prior to the sale.
