Launched at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo GTV coupe and Spider convertible were rapturously received by press and public alike. Beautifully styled by Pininfarina, both cars featured a flying wedge shape with a low nose and high kicked up tail that looked fast even when standing still. To save weight the bonnet, inner and outer front wings and bumpers were made from a composite plastic, while the rest of the body was galvanized to end once and for all that old Alfa bugbear of rust.

Two main engines were available, the 150bhp 2-litre Twin Spark or the more potent 3-litre V6 in either 12-valve 190bhp spec or 220bhp 24-valve spec. The latter engine could propel the car to 60mph in just 7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 149mph, making it the fastest production Alfa to date. Allied to secure front-wheel drive handling were direct 2.2 turns lock-to-lock steering and an all new multilink rear suspension which gave pin-sharp responses.

First registered in April 1998 this 24-valve 3-litre GTV has covered 110,000 miles from new with a good service history including 12 service stamps to date and many bills. Recent work includes a new cambelt and waterpump at 100,000 miles and a new clutch and full service at 88,000 miles. Upgrades include a sports exhaust system and cold air induction filter.

Finished in Grigio Titanium Grey, it has a ‘Lusso’ Momo embossed leather interior in dark grey with mid-grey carpets and Momo overmats. Equipment includes air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, electric windows, power steering, Brembo anti-lock brakes and a face-off CD system. The car is said to be in very good condition all round and to drive well.  It has recently had an oil and filter change and a new battery, while the water pump, radiator and cam belt were changed in 2010. Always well maintained and last serviced by specialist Tanc Barratt, this subtly upgraded car should provide many more years of fast and stylish motoring. Taxed and MOTd until next January, it is ready to drive away today.
