The 916 was Fabio Taglioni’s last design before he moved to MV. Based on a stroked 888, the liquid cooled 4-valve twin used Ducati’s trademark Desmodromic valve actuation, a system where the valves are positively closed as well as positively opened, negating the need for valve springs and designed to eliminate valve bounce. With its elegant single swing arm, trellis frame and aerodynamic under-seat exhausts the 916 1ooked sensational. It also performed well, with four world championships in Superbikes ridden by Troy Corser and Carl Foggarty to its name. Its 109 bhp was enough to take it to 160mph, the standing ¼ taking just 10.6 seconds. The results however came from the fabulous spread of torque more than outright power, making the big Ducati the lovely road bike that it is. Ducati made limited edition versions called the Senna and Senna II to mark the untimely demise of Ayrton Senna, this Senna II example being number 288 of just 300.

First registered in July 1997, 2 former keepers show on the registration document and MOTs are present back to 2000. The recorded mileage is 22,000 and it is a standard machine with no untoward modifications. Some service history is shown in the duplicate service book, the previous keeper being the owner of Superlite Ducati Spares who maintained it themselves. Italsport in Manchester fitted new cambelts late last year and an oil change was undertaken by STP Motorsport in Hereford shortly after.

MOT’d until October 2012 this rare and original superbike is fully serviced and ready for the road.
