In 1975 Jaguar took the bold decision to start production of its elegant two-door coupe XJ6C, two years after it had first shown it to the press and public. Based on the short wheel-base floor pan of the XJ6 saloon, the coupe featured a clever pillarless glass side profile, although the prohibitive expense of getting the bodyshell to meet US safety regulations meant that it never went on sale in the States - hence its short production life of just two years. Just 6,487 Jaguar 4.2-litre examples were produced before production ended in 1978, making this one of the rarest and most sought after versions of the wonderfully smooth and potent XJ range.

This particular car was first registered in March 1978. A very large file of bills and photos shows that it was substantially restored between 1997 and 2000 by a previous owner. This included fitting many new body panels and repainting the car in a most attractive dark metallic blue.

The interior has also been expertly retrimmed in butterscotch hide piped in blue, and a sporting woodrim steering wheel fitted. The car is said to drive very well and certainly seemed to go well when we were treated to a short test drive on the occasion of our visit to take these photographs. We also had to manage a crowd of onlookers who soon gathered to admire this lovely classic! MOTd until December and taxed until August, it is ready for a proud new owner to drive away today.
