The Opel Manta first made its debut in 1970 as a curvaceous 2 door coupe. Using the traditional Ascona floor pan, it was rugged, handled well and was very pretty thanks to styling cues taken from the stunning Opel GT.

Powered by a bewildering range of engines, the UK elected to limit the choice to the larger power plants, marketing the car as an Opel rather than a Vauxhall, presumably to add a bit of Continental glamour over its Capri rival. Certainly the Manta was always seen as the more masculine of the two.

By 1975 the 3 box coupe had been re-designed in a more square-cut fashion and by 1977 had been joined by a more practical hatchback. This actually shared the bodyshell with the Vauxhall Cavalier Sports Hatch and the two were sold alongside each other in the UK. It received its final face-lift in 1982 with side skirts and spoiler as well as an excellent range of new OHC engines. Time was called in 1998 when the Manta was replaced by the front wheel drive Calibra.

The vendor purchased this very smart 1983 Manta Berlinetta from its first owner. It has covered just 47,000 miles and has clearly been very carefully looked after from new. He has treated it to 4 new shock absorbers and a new brake caliper, but other than that has used it very sparingly to take to shows, although says that he prefers his similar condition Automatic Opel Monza these days, hence his decision to part with it.

MOTd until September 2013 and with a few days tax to run after the sale, this has to be one of the last and best Mantas available and can be driven away from the sale.
