THIS BIKE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN. APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.

Launched in the late 1940s, the venerable BSA A10 remained in production until 1962. It was powered by a 650cc overhead-valve four-stroke twin with an alloy head that produced around 38bhp with bags of low revs torque for relaxed cruising.

Reliable and good-natured, it won a loyal following and was capable of anything from the daily commute to long-distance touring. One of the most glamorous incarnations of the A10 was the Spitfire Scrambler which was aimed squarely at the thriving American export market and featured lashings of chrome, beefed up suspension and high level exhausts.

According to the American Certificate of Title which accompanies the machine, this particular Spitfire dates from April 1959 and belonged to a gentleman in Illinois in 2007. It was imported back to the UK in 2008. The vendor believes that the bike was treated to a ground up restoration while in the USA and states that it remains in excellent condition today.

It comes with a letter from the BSA Gold Star Owners Club confirming the original build details and it would appear to remain a ‘matching numbers’ machine with its original frame and engine. Although the last MOT expired in July 2012 (with no advisories recorded), the bike is said to remain in good running order and to ride well. These Spitfire Scramblers are a very rare sight in the UK and this one looks good value at the guide price suggested today.
