Widely regarded as the quintessential American sportscar, the Corvette was launched way back in 1953 and remains in production to this day.
The fourth generation Corvette hit the streets in March 1983 and with the exception of the 5.7 litre engine was a complete revision. While the performance of the earlier Corvettes was never in doubt, criticisms were levelled at the handling and much of the design work on the new car centred around the chassis and suspension. A composite transverse front spring was introduced which is still found in the latest Corvettes today. This made a significant improvement to roadholding , however it did so at the expense of ride comfort – something that the home market buyers grumbled about, but was much appreciated by proper drivers in Europe!
1993 models were fitted with a 6-speed ZF gearbox, 300bhp LT1 engine and a switchable ASR (Acceleration Slip Control) system which applied the brakes, retarded the ignition and closed the throttle as required to stop ‘excessive’ wheel spin!
Dating from 1995, this Corvette Targa Top is a desirable six-speed manual model finished in silver with a black leather interior. Equipment includes: climate control; remote control Kenwood 10 CD multichanger; cruise control; remote central locking; electric seats and onboard computer. It also rides on a set of four top quality Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Said to be in excellent condition throughout and to drive beautifully, it has only covered some 35,700 miles from new and has an MOT until June 2013. Due to be driven over 150 miles to the sale, this fabulously sporting machine looks tremendous value at the guide price suggested today.
