The Jaguar XK8 Coupe took over from the long serving XJS when the covers were pulled off at the 1996 Geneva show. The sensational launch of its ancestor, the timeless E-Type, also in Geneva some 35 years earlier, was obviously in everyone's minds, Jaguar no doubt praying that some of the magic of its iconic forebear would rub off onto the new car.
Designed by Geoff Lawson who was also responsible for the stunning XJ220, it shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7 to which it bore a more than passing resemblance. The first Jaguar ever with an eight-cylinder engine, it's 4-litre V8 produced 290bhp, sufficient to propel the car to an electronically limited 155mph top speed. Still looking fresh today, Jaguar have continued to develop the styling theme, the genes clearly visible in the very latest F-Type which has just been announced.
This smart looking 1999 example has covered just over 90,000 miles, a mere walk in the park for these unstressed engines, during which time the car has been serviced 9 times. Its last was undertaken in June of last year and it has covered under 1,000 miles since. MOTd until June 2013, it is ready to go. These top quality Jaguars look a million dollars and drive superbly. They have surely bottomed out in price so now is quite probably the best time to buy - go on, treat yourself!
