In 1974 MG was forced to redesign the ever-popular MGB due to tougher crash safety legislation in America, one of the key markets for the car.
The old chrome bumpers were deleted in favour of new rubber items front and rear and the ride height was raised by one inch to bring the headlamps up to the new level now required. The interior was also redesigned somewhat with a more modern fascia and improved heating and ventilation. Otherwise the car was still substantially the same as it had always been, with classically elegant bodywork and a gutsy 1.8-litre engine which gave 100mph performance.
This lovely yellow car is an exceptionally well-preserved example that is showing only 41,200 miles from new. MGB production ended in October 1980 but this car was not registered until March 1981 so it must surely be one of the last examples made.
It comes with various bills for routine servicing plus an insurance certificate from 1998 which valued it at £6,500. Appearing to be in fine, original condition throughout, it has been in the current ownership since 2011 and is said to drive beautifully with an MOT until August 2013.
