Introduced in 1965, the Pininfarina styled MGB GT 2+2 was largely based on the convertible, but used a taller windscreen and new roof line. The MGB range was an enormous success and its popularity as an affordable fun car has not diminished. Furthermore its 95bhp B-Series engine with twin 1 ½ “ SUs makes for a 105mph top speed. Their reliability, performance and excellent handling mean that there is no reason why they cannot be used every day.

A photographic record of the bare shell restoration accompanies this 1973 example and clearly shows the full extent of the work done. Although the work was carried out some time ago and the car has covered some 20,000 miles since, its present condition is testament to the quality of the restoration with just a few areas of micro-blistering on the otherwise good paintwork.

Mechanically the car was uprated somewhat during the rebuild and it now features a Stage 1 cylinder head, fast road Kent camshaft and a lightened flywheel (19.5lbs). The car is said to drive very well with a good turn of speed and is MOT’d until October and taxed until the end of September. Complete with period-looking alloy wheels, a Webasto sunroof, overdrive, Kenlowe fan, MotoLita steering wheel, CD player and stainless steel exhaust, plus a fitted car cover, it will be driven to the sale and is ready for immediate use.

With a vast array of marque specialists, a highly active club scene and the availability of any spare part at modest cost, the MGB must rank alongside the Morris Minor as the easiest form of classic motoring around.
